Have we thought in our hearts about what we could do for America as believers? Have we made the question even more personal and ask, “What can I do for America as a believer?” Our nation is a nation in need of prayer and spiritual awakening! Right now we may be thinking I am going to vote this way or that way. While voting is important, and should be bathed in prayer, there is something vitally important we should be doing for our nation.
Our example is found in the book of Isaiah in chapter sixty-four. Isaiah is referred to as the ‘Statesman Prophet’ and was often sought out for advice concerning the affairs of state by those in position of leadership. Now we need to understand that while his advice was sought out it doesn’t mean his advice was taken. From the beginning of the book of Isaiah he is made aware that the nation is a ‘sin sick society’ laden with evil and a people that had forgotten to whom they owed their existence.
God had shared with Isaiah that the whole of Judah was sick from the bottom of their feet to the top of their head. They were a sinful people covered with draining sores that had not been healed and that no healing ointment had been applied. God went on to say that He was tired of all their worship, which was in form only, and that as far as He was concerned they could stop all the pretending. In spite of the spiritual sleep, and disobedience, God was gracious and extended and invitation to His people in Isa. 1:18, which is still available today, “Come NOW and let us reason together, saith the Lord: though your sins be as scarlet, they shall be white as snow; though they be red like crimson, they shall be as wool.” ISN’T GOD GRACIOUS!
The decades have passed, when we arrive at chapter sixty-four, and the man of God is at the end of his spiritual rope and his heart is so heavy for his nation. Isaiah prays a prayer that is most intense and from his heart he desires a visit from God that will bring honor to God and revival to His people! Isaiah begins his prayer with the word translated ‘Oh’ which is an intense word that means “would that” or expresses a great longing, or thirst. Isaiah is truly burdened and seeks to take hold of God and for God to do what only God can do among His people!
Isaiah prays for GOD TO ‘rend the heavens’, do that which is exceptional and come down into our midst. God do what is necessary for your mighty presence to weigh heavy on your people! Such a visit from God would cause the mountains to break down and the waters to boil! Isaiah went on to include in his prayer that such a powerful visit of God upon His people would cause God’s enemies to tremble!
Folks, Isaiah’s prayer should be our prayer! What America needs today is to witness the presence, and power, of God coming down on His people, and breaking the stony hearts, and causing hearts to boil again for Jesus!
